Summer Learning Loss Research
The purpose of this workshop is to allow students the opportunity to further solidify concepts covered in an AP (Advanced Placement) or IB (International Baccalaureate) science class, as well as get a head start on the IPC curriculum.
Since IPC is a high school credit class that requires a mid-term and final exam, there is little, if any, review done at the start of the year to keep up with the pace of the class. The first goal of this workshop is to review previously taught curriculum in areas of chemistry and physics to build a strong foundation that will lead to academic success. Secondly, we will begin to work on the first several concepts of the IPC course to bolster student confidence and mastery of the advanced level coursework.

IPC objectives covered include:
-
Extensive Review of Periodic Table
-
Atomic Structure
-
Balancing and Identifying Chemical Equations
-
Writing and Naming Chemical Compounds
-
Oxidation Numbers and Ionization
-
Metric Conversion
-
Dimensional Analysis
-
Gravitational Acceleration
-
Simple Machines
-
Newton's Laws of Motion
-
Charles' and Boyle's Gas Laws
-
Momentum
-
Manipulating Variables to Solve for Unknowns
-
Force and Motion
