Is there a minimum or maximum number of tutoring hours required per week? Q: Is there a minimum or maximum number of tutoring hours required per week? A: No. You can take on as many (or as few) tutoring sessions per week. We do ask that you are consistently available for each family, (usually this means one session per week). Should a family be in need of more sessions during the week and you are available, that’s wonderful! Furthermore, if your schedule allows for additional tutoring placements, that works, too. Understand that we expect you to be committed to each placement, regardless of the frequency in which you see them. Q: Do I tutor for the entire school year? A: Yes, that would be preferred. Raising the Bar asks that prospective tutors commit to working with us for the duration of school year to provide ongoing support for students. Q: Can I start in the middle of the school year? A: Sure! Tutors are always in need. Q: Do families have to commit to a year of tutoring? A: No. Tutoring can be short-term, or long-term, dependent on the need. A: You will be tutoring kids in the Houston area. Parents will submit an online tutoring form in which we will receive information about the student to provide a perfect placement that works for all. Q: Where does tutoring take place? A: Tutoring usually takes place in the student’s home, however alternate venues can be agreed upon by the tutor and the family in need. If tutoring at home, a parent is required to be present during the session. Q: How much do tutors earn and when will I be paid? A: Tutors earn $50 per hour for each one-on-one session. Payment to you is dependent on how quickly (and often) you submit your tutoring invoice and payment from the family (all checks are written to “Raising the Bar”). Once Raising the Bar receives your invoice and payment, we in turn write and mail you a check for your services. Q: Is this contract work or will I be an employee? A: This is contract work. All new tutors submit a W-9 tax form to Raising the Bar prior to the first tutoring placement. Q: Do I get compensated for driving and gas costs? A: Driving time and commuting costs are factored into the hourly wage. Q: How does the placement process work? A: Good question. Once a parent submits a tutoring request, Raising the Bar reviews the information and makes contact with tutors who are a good match for the student, depending on location, areas of need, and schedules. After a match is approved by both parties (the parent and prospective tutor), the tutor then contacts the family to set up dates and times that work well for all. |
