Summer Learning Loss Research

ax² + bx + c = 0

Are you supposed to spell this problem or solve it? With all those letters, numbers and symbols, Algebra can seem more like alphabet soup! Even students with strong fundamental math skills may struggle with all the abstract concepts, formulas and equations Algebra throws their way.

This class, however, will break Algebraic concepts down into more meaningful and manageable chunks, helping even the most math-phobic students connect Algebra to the real world, and, most importantly, helping to lay the foundation for success in higher-level math classes that high schools and colleges demand. In this four-day class students will:

  • Learn algebraic concepts and terminology.

  • Learn math study skills for completion of homework and taking tests.

  • Understand the Assessment system used in Algebra 1 course (with rubrics and examples of past exams used).

  • Use Technology in solutions of algebraic problems.

  • Engage in Algebraic games to reinforce algebraic concepts.

  • Use hands-on manipulatives to describe exponents, variables and numbers.

Registration information for summer 2012 will be posted prior to beginning of registration.
