Summer Learning Loss Research
In this class, kids will learn the basics of the forgotten art of sewing. We will cover skills such as threading needles, working with patterns, sewing buttons, stitching basics, and embellishing clothing and accessories with ribbons, buttons, and other notions. After we master the basics, we will complete several projects that incorporate all the skills we’ve learned and are darn cute to boot!
Sewing serves not only practical purposes such as repairing clothing and replacing buttons, but also serves to improve hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. Needle-threading, knotting, and stitching in particular help develop manual dexterity as well as patience and persistence. Additionally, each successfully completed project helps build each child’s self esteem, something vital to the developing adolescent!
